Le Bristol, prestigious residence in Beaulieu-sur-Mer

Located between Nice and Monaco, Beaulieu-sur-Mer is one of the most sought-after towns on the French Riviera. Its idyllic setting, Mediterranean climate, and exceptional architectural heritage make it a prime destination for luxury real estate enthusiasts.

Among the city’s most prestigious residences, Le Bristol alone embodies the refinement and elegance of the Riviera.

Discover the fascinating history of Le Bristol, its unique assets, and the real estate opportunities currently available in this legendary residence.

The history of Le Bristol

Built between 1897 and 1899 at the initiative of Sir John Blundell Maple, a prominent London furniture manufacturer, the Hôtel Bristol quickly established itself as one of the finest hotels on the French Riviera. Designed by Danish architect Hans-Georg Tersling, the establishment opened its doors on January 5, 1899 in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, offering 300 luxuriously appointed rooms spread over five floors.

The hotel stood out for its Belle Époque architecture and high-end amenities, including bathrooms supplied with heated seawater, refined libraries, and pavilions dedicated to concerts and theatrical performances. Its prestigious clientele included figures such as Prince Louis Napoleon and Queen Margherita of Italy.

In 1911, a fire destroyed the hotel’s top two floors. Thanks to its reinforced concrete structure, the lower levels were preserved, and the establishment reopened for the 1911–1912 season, now featuring four floors and a tiled roof.

In 1954, in response to economic changes and the decline of Europe’s great families, the Hôtel Bristol was converted into a high-end condominium. This transformation preserved the building’s architectural elegance while adapting it to modern needs.

Today, Le Bristol offers spacious apartments with independent entrances, surrounded by well-maintained gardens and benefiting from the services of a caretaker. Its proximity to the Beaulieu tennis club courts, shops, beaches, and the Casino makes it a highly sought-after residence.

La Rotonde, a former annex of the hotel built in 1904 for tea dances, is a remarkable example of Belle Époque architecture. After serving as a conference center, it has housed, since 2011, a Michelin-starred restaurant and events such as the Salons de la Rotonde Lenôtre, thus returning to its festive vocation.

The transformation of Le Bristol into a prestigious residence reflects a desire to preserve its architectural heritage while offering a modern, luxurious lifestyle. Current owners therefore enjoy a place steeped in history, combining old-world charm with contemporary comfort.
